Freo Messenger

From a central location, the Freo Messenger interface, you can communicate with friends spread across multiple networks. You see, Freo Messenger comes with support for AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN, and Jabber – and thanks to a plug-in system, it also comes with support for Gadu-Gadu, Yahoo, Netsend, Skype, and more. So instead of switching from one IM client to another, you can use Freo Messenger to stay in touch with all your friends.

Download the Freo Messenger installation file, a 6.3MB executable, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will guide you through the installation process. You will be asked what components to install, you will be invited to pick between a Full and a Custom Installation, and you will get to choose the installation directory. Please note that the setup wizard will want to install the NetScout Toolbar, change your default search, your homepage, and the new tab page.

When you run Freo Messenger for the first time, you will be invited to create a new profile and then you will be invited to add your accounts. Setting up all your IM accounts is a relatively straightforward matter and that is always nice.

The application’s interface is just what you would expect from an IM client: a list of all your contacts takes up the main part, a menu for accessing Freo Messenger’s features is presented at the top. It is such a simple layout that you will immediately feel at home using Freo Messenger.

And speaking about using Freo Messenger, let’s take a quick look at its main features so you can get a clearer picture of what can be done with the application: support for multiple IM protocols (AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Yahoo, and more), live chat, photo and file sharing, listen to online radio stations, custom skins can be run from a USB stick, RSS feed reader, weather, and all the other features you would expect to get from an instant messaging application. All these features are offered for the great price of free – and while Freo Messenger is running, it does not eat up a lot of resources.
